USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) is a technology for exchanging text messages between a mobile device and a service provider in real time. Unlike SMS, USSD does not store messages on the device, but allows users to interact with the network through a set of short commands, usually starting with an asterisk (*) and ending with a grid (#). USSD sessions are set up instantly, making them convenient for getting information or performing actions quickly.
USSD is used for various mobile operator services. These can be balance inquiries, top-ups, activation of services, setting up tariff plans and checking the remaining traffic. USSD is also widely used in banking services to perform transactions such as account verification or transfers, especially in regions with limited internet access. Unlike apps, USSD does not require an internet connection and works on any mobile device, making it accessible to a wide range of users.
USSD simplifies access to various services without the need to use apps or connect to the internet.
For example, to find out the account balance, a user can enter the *100# command and press the call button. In response, information about the current balance will appear on the screen.
Entering the command 123 code recharge# allows to quickly recharge the account using a voucher or prepaid card.
To connect mobile Internet you can use the command 1111# or a similar command offered by the operator.
You can also use USSD to check your bank account balance by dialing a special command or transfer money to another account.
